Related calendars, different calculations
Samaritan and Jewish calendars share a biblical framework, but their calculations and leap-year arrangements can differ. Corresponding festivals therefore do not always fall on the same civil date.
Priestly responsibility
The community’s calendar account describes priestly supervision and confirmation of calendar calculations. The calendar is a practical religious authority: it coordinates worship and the timing of festivals.
Using dates accurately
A Jewish festival date should not automatically be substituted for a Samaritan one. For a visit or a dated historical event, consult the Samaritan calendar for the particular year and distinguish the religious date from its civil-calendar equivalent. This page explains the system rather than publishing an annually changing schedule.
